Contest Objectives
The JM Creative Arts and Writing contest provides students with an opportunity to display and share their creative efforts. It also offers the school and the community a way to promote art, music, and creative writing education and appreciation, while recognizing and rewarding students for their efforts and high-quality creative work. The contest is open to all Joaquin Moraga students and is sponsored by the JM PTA.
Prizes
Each grade level will be judged separately within each category. Exceptions may be made if not enough entries were received.
Prizes will be awarded in the following denominations: |
|
First Place |
$20 |
|
Second Place |
$10 |
|
Third Place |
$5 |
Everyone entering the contest will receive an award certificate or a certificate of participation. Musicians and videos entered as a group will split one award.
EXTRA CREDIT
Some teachers are offering extra credit to students who participate in this year’s contest. The amount of credit varies with each teacher. Please check with your teachers for more information.
Judges
All judges are individuals who have expertise in the art, music, or creative writing field they are judging. They are typically local or regional writers, artists and teachers. None of the judges is a JM parent or teacher or is in any way affiliated with JM students. Judging criteria and the rules for each category are listed in a separate section of this website.
Display of Work
All contest work will be displayed in the JM Library by April 22, through the middle of May. If a suitable location is available, winning art entries will then be installed for a public display in the community until the end of the school year. Music entries, if feasible, will also be available in the library or music room for listening. Winning art and writing entries (identified, for security, only by winners’ first names and last initials) will also be posted on the JM PTA website.
