Parenting Teens

Moving on Down the Road - How to successfully navigate the transition from 8th grade to High School - A Panel Discussion. Parent Ed at OIS Multi-purpose Room on Tuesday, May 27th, from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

Moderator: Irene Coleman, MFT, with a private practice in Lafayette
Panel: Counselors and Students from Campolindo, Miramonte, and Acalanes High Schools.

Are you worried or curious about your child's transition to high school? This is a pivotal period in your child's social and academic development. We will talk about how to help guide your child through this transition while attending to their psychological needs and to address the changes that happen in your family as your child becomes more independent. Come here solutions to issues like: how much freedom is too much, why our children's experiences seem so different from our own and how to recognize signs that our children may be experiencing difficulty and what we can do about this.

The high school counselors will present to us issues they see at school, tips for coping with this transition and much, much more. The high school Juniors will share first hand experiences and challenges they had as freshman.

Ms. Coleman earned her graduate degree in counseling psychology from JFK University. She works with individuals, adolescents, families, couples and children. Her special areas of interest are adolescents, parent-child relationships, ADHD, blended family adjustments, trauma, addiction and divorced family co-parenting.
